If that wasn’t sufficient, they also have a neck guard on the back, which prevents backstabbing.

Ronson Standard De-Light The first gas fueled lighter, the Gentry – a table lighter, is introduced by the Quercia family owned Flaminaire Company and is shortly followed by a pocket model called the Crillion. The early butane lighters all used proprietary single use gas tanks. When the tank was empty, you bought another one – a good revenue stream for the manufacturers.

Later this evolved to a system of refillable tanks that used proprietary cylinders to fill them – you had to buy the right gas cylinder for your lighter. A little further on butane gas could be bought from third party manufacturers – who often included adapters so you could refill any of several brands of lighters. Eventually almost all butane lighters used standardized filler mechanisms. In some cases, it is possible to still get the old lighters and work on the tanks to make them refillable and end up with a working lighter.

And behind these our infantry will be able to follow quite unharmed and without any opposition. Then, in , a design for a tracked, armoured vehicle was submitted to the British War Office by an Australian civil engineer named Lancelot de Mole. And instantly rejected — until the Royal Navy, in the shape of the First Lord of the Admiralty at the time, Winston Churchill , formed the Landships Committee to investigate whether these newfangled machines could break the deadlock of the First World War.

Ronson Cadet Adonis Lighter This lighter (C) isn’t in ‘The Book’ and I can’t find any exact dating – likely early s. This lighter was made only in England – as all Cadets.

Jan 16, I think I mentioned this in another thread, but it’s appropriate here, too I’ve carried a Ronson torch like the one in the OP for a couple years. I don’t think you could possibly have it discharge inadvertently, the spring on the button is a real mofo I’ve modified mine and eliminated the main spring so as to make it easier to use for long burns.

The Ronson suffers from reliability problems that I’ve never seen with the Bic-style lighters. Even though there is a cover on the burner, mine gets lint and dirt in the burner from being in my pocket and sometimes will simply not light. I usually can clean it by just blowing sharp bursts down on the burner and fix it, but sometimes I have to go to the garage and blast it with the air compressor. As for cool factor, mine is the dark gray one, which turns out to have a copper finish under the paint.

After a while in the pocket, it gets a very nice patina with the copper showing through the worn paint and it looks waaay cooler than almost any other lighter I’ve seen. Here’s a crappy phone-photo:
